The junior national women team of Nigeria, Falconets, put up a late minute effort to survive Chinese scare for a place in the quarter final of the France 2018 U-20 Women World Cup, on Monday.
The Nigerians needed a draw to book their place in the last eight and seemed to let the chance slip by until a late minute equaliser from the boots of Rasheedat Ajibade in the 95th minute.
China opened scoring in the 41st minute and looked to be heading to the knockout stage.
The Asians pushed for a goal in the decisive match and got their reward from a Ly Zhang strike, four minutes before half time.
With the match heading to a 1-0 win for China, they pushed forward for a second but were denied by a brilliant Nigerian goalkeeper.
Chiamaka Nnadozie saved two last gasps before Nigeria levelled .
Nnadozie, rose to the occasion in the 92nd minute of with another save to keep Nigeria into the game.
Ajibade, who scored Nigeria’s only goal against Haiti, again saving the country from an early knockout in the France 2018 FIFA U-20 Women World Cup.
Group leader, completed a three-game winning streak, pipping Caribbean nation, Haiti 3-2 to maintain its 100% record.
Nigeria finishes the group on second position with four points, five behind winners, Germany.
The Christopher Musa led-side will face Group C winners, Spain.
Fellow Africans, Ghana, lost out in the group stage after third in Group A.
